Four days after claiming Brothers deserved better than to lose to Kangaroos at Robertson Oval on Anzac Day, Black is not taking anything for granted before playing Tumbarumba on Saturday.
“I hope so (win), but you just don’t get any easy games this year,” Black said.
“Tumba are a lot stronger than they were last year and we’ll need to be on our A-grade game.”
In a shock to the system, Brothers are languishing without a win in three games, while Tumbarumba broke the ice by beating Young 30-26 on April 10.
However Black believes Brothers should have rolled Kangaroos on Monday, rather than going down 36-32.
Significantly, the Brethren scored seven tries to six, but managed to kick only two goals from seven attempts.
The tight loss was in contrast to Tumbarumba’s faltering 44-24 failure against Temora at Nixon Park last Sunday.
The Greens were competitive with the Dragons, but brittle defence at the worst times was a killer.
Black is refusing to count out Tumbarumba – and he has inside knowledge to back up the judgement.
The Brothers coach has revealed he has a high opinion of Tumbarumba’s clever English halfback Jordan Anderson.
Anderson and Black were club mates in England before Black returned to Australia and joined Brothers in 2015.
“For sure, I know a lot about Jordan Anderson,” Black said.
“He’s a good player and definitely one we’ve got to get over.”
Playing on the losing team, Anderson shone for Tumbarumba against Temora, creating several chances that the Greens didn’t take.
Fresh from duelling with Daniel Fitzhenry last weekend, Anderson is now locked in to match wits with Black in a vital contest.
Fellow English recruits Luke Hudson and Casey Johnson also showed promise in the pack for Tumbarumba last week, but the key for the Greens has to be skipper Robbie Byatt.
The powerful centre is sure to try to cut loose out wide, especially working off halves Anderson and Kane Hammond.
