Compassion comes first
I am often confused by D Green’s letters.

The most recent missive by him on April 26 related to alleged racist slurs directed at African soccer players.
The example of an expletive directed at D Green by an Indigenous person was given.
I don’t condone this and I am very sorry it happened.
I don’t understand why you would then go on and suggest it was up to the Africans to put up with the abuse and by implication that racist taunts are acceptable.
I won’t repeat what you suggested they do as I believe it was in very bad taste. No one should throw abuse.
These people have come from circumstances as refugees we cannot image. Let’s give them a chance to see the best of us, not the worst.
Let’s include civility and understanding in the way we relate to each other.
I may be called a loon and a bleeding heart again but such is life.

True Anzac spirit
I WISH to give heartfelt thanks to both Legacy and Wagga RSL for their forethought in providing chairs that covered both Baylis and Morrow streets, in their thousands, for people to use at the dawn service and march on Anzac Day.
This along with a large TV screen to view the proceedings was a very pleasant and comfortable surprise. Thanks to both of you for doing so – well done.

Church will survive
IN RESPONSE to Saturday’s letter titled “Church in terminal decline”.
The Catholic Church has been in existence for 2000 years.
It survived the Roman emperors’ cruel terrorist style persecutions and has been through the Arian crisis.
It survived the Crusades, in which large areas of Europe and the Middle East were under attack and occupied by Muslim terrorists, and under communism it has survived persecution until now.
The church is run by governors at various levels.
It is they who will face justice after their death if they do not rule according to god's laws.
Sometimes those governors become weak and lose sight of their vocation, same as in any organisation.
I would be the first to denounce any bad priest or bishop I knew harmed anyone - child or adult.
It would be disastrous if the letter writer and other like-minded people were to lose their faith in the Catholic Church because of the serious faults of some of its governors. After all, the governors are not the Catholic Church - Jesus is!
I will not give up on my church. It appears to be a sinking ship but it will stay afloat. We are under siege. Be prepared to fight for survival in a hostile world.
Do not join the world as some governors have done. Remember, the bible: "who will throw the first stone".

Shooting down claims
IN RELATION to false claims from the Greens that firearms laws have been somehow loosened.
To suggest that firearms laws have been loosened or watered-down in Australia is completely false.
These stories by the Greens are designed to generate quick headlines on the anniversary of a national tragedy in Port Arthur.
What happened on that day was the result of on madman’s actions and has been used to stigmatise farmers, hunters and shooters ever since. Law-abiding firearms owners are not the problem, criminals are.
