The man, who only wished to be known as Tony, is the most recent victim of increasingly common attacks in the city driven by serious illicit drugs, including ice.
While jogging in Turvey Park at 6.40pm on Monday night, Tony approached a young woman standing on the corner of Halloran and Urana streets, who unexpectedly lashed out, gnashing her teeth and yelling ferociously.
“She let out a hissing and growling noise and she came right for me, snapping her teeth and snarling like a zombie,” the 44-year-old said.
“I realised she was completely naked, extremely aggressive and I thought she must have been out of her mind on drugs.”
The woman proceeded to chase the man before laying in the middle of the road and performing sexual acts upon herself.
Tony said the woman’s “psychotic state” left him extremely shaken, fearing for his safety and suffering panic attacks throughout the evening.
“I'm adamant that if she'd grabbed hold of me she would have bitten me to pieces, which is terrifying,” he said.
“It was extremely intimidating to have her running straight for me while naked and snapping her teeth. I was a nervous wreck.”
It took five police to restrain the woman before she was taken to Wagga hospital, which has confirmed she was treated for excessive drug use in the emergency department.
Tony is urging caution to locals after his frightening first-hand experience with someone on illicit substances.
“If it had been a young or old person, they could have been terribly injured, because she was in a serious state of aggression,” he said.
Unfortunately the issue of illicit drug use is not uncommon in Wagga, with Superintendent Bob Noble saying ice-related assaults were increasing in the city.
“There’s a lot of alarm and concern about ice, because it does seem to be a growing issue here,” he said.
“Someone on ice can be very unpredictable, dangerous, and erratic.”
The woman is currently in a stable condition and receiving treatment in hospital. No charges have yet been laid.
