Cunningham was this week rewarded for his consistency with a new three-year deal that will see him stay at the Swans until the end of 2019.
The 22-year-old was out of contract at the end of this season but both he and the Swans were keen to get the deal done and out of the way early.
Cunningham said he never even bothered to ask his manager if there was any other options than the Swans.
“I’ve said it before but I feel as though I owe a fair bit to the Swans,” Cunningham said.
“To sign me up as a rookie, now at the end of this deal it will be eight years at the Swans so it was a very easy decision.”
Sydney Swans general manager Tom Harley told the club’s website that there were a number of reasons why it was an easy decision to secure Cunningham for another three years.
"Obviously you need to have some outside speed, and Harry is developing nicely through his career and he's that sort of player," Harley said.
"Outside speed is one of the areas that we see as really important, so the fact he ticks that box is a bonus.
"But Harry is also the ideal character to have around a footy club. He's very diligent, committed to the club and a fantastic young leader in his own right."
After being overlooked by Greater Western Sydney (GWS) through their academy, Cunningham has loved every minute at the Swans.
“I love pulling on the red and white guernsey,” he said.
“I love being around the club. It has a rich history and a bright present and future. It was an easy decision.
“Now I’m hoping to repay the football club with some good footy.”
Cunningham has managed 56 AFL games since making his debut against the Giants back in round one of 2012.
Seven of those games have been finals and Cunningham is happy with how the Swans have started the 2016 season.
“Our first month has been pretty good,” he said.
“We have played some pretty good footy but Adelaide were very good on the weekend and there were just a couple of little things that let us down.
“It was a pretty hostile environment over there in front of 50,000 Adelaide Crows fans so we still take a lot out of that.
“We get back to the SCG this weekend to play another great side in West Coast so hopefully we can bounce back there.”
Cunningham said he is happy with his start to the year as he continues to perform a number of different roles for the team.
