Mudgee trainer Mack Griffith has thanked the famous racing family the Cojuangco’s at Goree Stud for their patience after Pera Pera’s slashing win in the NSW Country Championship qualifier at Wellington Sunday.

‘’The Cojuangco family at Goree have had plenty of trouble with this horse, he has had some many injuries which have almost ended his career but that was a really good win.’’ Mr Griffith said.

Pera Pera was always in the mix during a hotly contested affair but when they turned the 5 year old by Sweet Sense rushed away from Iron Blue and Heza Thief to win easily.

Pera Pera despite starting from the outside barrier was beautifully ridden by Aaron Bullock who said the horse performed brilliantly.

‘’He just shot away when I asked him too and from an outside gate he was very impressive.’’ He said.

The first two horses across the line head now to Randwick for the final of the NSW Country Championships with both horses genuine chances according to trainer Mack Griffith. ‘’We have won at Randwick in a restricted race this will be harder but we are a great chance.’’

Pera Pera started a $2.40 favourite, Iron Blue $17 with Heza Thief $3.50 third.

Champion central west jockey Greg Ryan and Muswellbrook trainer Pat Farrell celebrated back to back Statewide Shed’s Wellington Boot’s on Sunday following Alliterate’s blistering victory in the 2YO classic.

The crowd at Wellington cheered wildly as Ryan brought the two year old into the enclosure.

‘’It was a sensational win. This horse has done a lot wrong and his trainer Pat Farrell said don’t worry about all his injury problems he will win the Boot and he did.’’

Greg Ryan who claimed his 3rd Wellington Boot all of which have been trained by Pat Farrell said the favourite Spright and early race leader Vixen Lass gave him the perfect run.

‘’I just sat quietly behind them and they carted me through and he the horse accelerated in the straight.’’ He said.

Mr Farrell who has been very ill and recently had a very bad health scare would be feeling much better one of his owners Steve Watts said.

‘’Pat was confident about the horse and we are very excited about winning this wonderful race and despite the fact he can’t be here, he will be watching at home. This is the perfect tonic for one of the great names of bush racing.’’

‘’Pat is a great fellow and is passionate about country racing and we have now set her for the bigger races in Sydney and in the longer term we think she can stay and we might have a tilt at the Queensland Oaks.

The Alliterate ($7) easily downed favourite Spright ($3) and Sugarparma was third.

The $100,000 Wellington Boot was combined with the NSW Country Championship qualifier in 2016 and it attracted what is estimated to be about 7,500 people up 1,500 from last year.

Mudgee galloper Pera Pera dominated the NSW Country Championship with a run away win over iron Blue and Heza Thief.

3.50pm: Zahron wins The Soldiers Memorial Town Plate. Big day for former Canberra raider Ashley Gilbert who owns the Cowra galloper. Its back to back Plate's for Mr Gilbert.

3.30pm: The Flash One.wins race 5 

2.41pm: ​I'm Not Sure wins race 4 with Greg Ryan aboard

2pm: Wollartant wins two races in two days to win race one. Wollartant wins race one, Run Cannon Run scores in race two and Galaxy Warrior wins race three for Mudgee trainer Ganya Williams

12pm: Wellington Boot day is underway

A big crowd, lots of colour the first race at 12.35, Spanish Fly is the favourite.
