The Wagga man is in his 60s but like he says “who is counting”. And he has a list of wins in almost all events and represented Australia in the steer wrestling at Calgary Stampede in Canada.
In fact, the walls of his house are lined with trophy buckles, photographs and memorabilia to prove his successful career.
And he has plenty of stories to tell too.
Many of the top cowboys and cowgirls from throughout the Riverina got their start in the sport after being mentored by Mr Wilson. As part of a greater celebration of the history of the sport in southern NSW former competitors and supporters are organising an upcoming reunion.
The reunion will be held on April 2 and 3 at Crookwell.
