A SERVICE to commemorate the Fall of Singapore to Japanese forces during World War II will be held in Wagga on Monday.

The service will begin at the Sandakan Memorial within the Victory Memorial Gardens at 11am
Singapore, considered an Allied fortress against Japan’s sweep across the Pacific, surrendered on February 15, 1942.
Some 15,000 Australian soldiers were taken prisoner of war.
Many died as a result of mistreatment.
Organiser of the service, Bob Toose from the Wagga sub-branch of the RSL, said all members of the public were welcome to attend the service.
“It should be remembered because it is such an important part of our military history,” Mr Toose said.
