On the march: The Adelong community hosted a banquet and recruiting rally, after which Charles joined the Tumut Six and they continued on to Cootamundra to connect with the main contingent of Kangaroos on their march to Sydney.
War experience: Charles sailed out of Sydney on the Ceramic and joined the 2nd Reinforcement 55th Battalion in France where he fought on the Western Front for over three years.
Life afterwards: Charles returned to Australia in 1919.Census information from the 1930s and 40s suggests he resided in Parkes until his death in 1949.
