The club was given barely two days to put together a submission as to why they shouldn't be docked points or hit with a huge fine following the actions of their travelling fans against Melbourne Victory during the 1-1 draw at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

The club circulated a short statement after making the submission confirming it was now waiting to hear back from the FFA.

"The Western Sydney Wanderers confirm it has submitted our response to the notice received from the FFA," it read. "No further comment will be made until the Western Sydney Wanderers are in receipt of the FFA's findings."

Club chief executive John Tsatsimas told Fairfax Media on Tuesday he would put forward a vigorous submission but added the club was desperate to rid itself of the "narcissistic" fans who were tarnishing the club's reputation.

"We owe a strong submission on behalf of the fans who support the team relentlessly during the course of the year, we owe it to the players that do so well on the pitch, the coaching staff, administration and board, who all do the right thing," he said.

"Who we're not doing it on behalf of are the people who continually seek to undermine this club, this game and our reputation. They don't care about the club. They care only about themselves."

It is not known how long the FFA will take before making their final decision but it is unlikely to be reached before this weekend's round of matches. The Wanderers are set to face the Wellington Phoenix at Pirtek Stadium on Sunday.

Although there has never been even a hint of crowd trouble between the two sides in the past - and would seem incredibly unlikely given the size of Wellington's small travelling support - security is likely to be beefed up for no reason other than what occurred last Saturday.

The following week will be a different proposition, however, with NSW Police contemplating deploying an unprecedented number of police for the Sydney derby at Allianz Stadium.

Wanderers forward Dario Vidosic, who was born in Croatia and played much of his football in Germany and Switzerland, said he'd seen much greater numbers of pyrotechnics in Europe but that Australian culture was not tolerant of flares.

"It's maybe a culture that's instilled in Europe but something that's not allowed here," he said. "We have to follow the rules regardless."

If the Wanderers get hit with a points deduction - widely thought to be three points if the FFA chooses such a punishment - Vidosic said it would be a huge blow to their hopes of becoming champions. They are equal on points with Brisbane Roar at the top of the table.

"To lose three would be a huge setback for us," he said. "We would have to try and put that behind us as players, mentally, and keep grinding away and try and overcome the three-point loss."
