This year’s annual Police Medals and Awards Ceremony saw dozens of officers recognsied for the varied work they carry out every day – from Inspector Peter Robertson receiving a 4th clasp to the NSW Police Medal for 30 years’ service, to the city’s newest recruit, Probationary Constable Thomas MacGregor, undertaking the oath.
Among the highlights, Sergeant Don Qvist received a swag of awards.
He was one of 13 officers to receive the National Police Service Medal and also collected the 1st clasp to the National Medal for 25 years’ service, the 3rd clasp to the NSW Police Medal for 25 years’ service and a warrant of appointment for his recent promotion to sergeant.
Sergeant Qvist, attached to the Highway and Traffic Patrol Command, also received the Region Commander’s Award.
Wagga police commander, Superintendent Bob Noble, also received the National Police Service Medal.
“The awards recognise something someone has done once-off or ongoing work,” Superintendent Noble said.
“We had a lot of retired police there. There was a really strong turnout from the community.”
