Participation was up on last year’s carnival, with more junior swimmers were willing to give it a go.
Perhaps the most notable achievement was accomplished by beginner swimmer Alina Flores, 10.

Struggling to finish, but unwilling to give up, she continued down the pool, aided by Oasis lifeguard Phil Stone who kept her afloat.
School friends cheered her on, and she made it with a smile on her face.
Making the carnival beginner-friendly is a priority for staff at Sturt Public.
“The beginner swimmers were really happy to give it a go, and we gave them an outside lane if they wanted,” organiser Susan Brasier said.
“There was a lot of cheering for those kids.
“It was nice to see the kids supporting each other.”
