WAGGA’S under 18 representative touch football team are in fine form ahead of the most prestigious event on the calendar.

The girls went through the Southern Suns regional tournament undefeated, and took out the final on the weekend.
The team, who have been training together since October, relished the chance to put their skills under the microscope in competition before Junior State Cup.
“We’re looking to go pretty deep into the finals, and if we make it to semis without injury it’s anyone’s game,” coach Evan Robertson said.
At Southern Suns the girls worked more cohesively as the day progressed, growing more accustomed to each other.
“They were a bit dusty at the early morning game, but the girls improved with each game,” Robertson said.
Just after facing Jerrabomberra in a round game, Wagga confronted them in the final winning 4-1.
“We knew what to expect, we wanted to get a couple of tries on them early,” Robertson said.
“It took a little while but once we got one, two three and four followed quickly.
“The girls didnt drop off any intensity even though Jerrabomberra kept hammering away.”
They’re a well-balanced team, making them hard to beat.
“Our girls have played together for quite some time, our side doesn't have any weak links,” Robertson said.
Kierra Hubbard, played well on wing, Holly Stephens defended really well in the middle and Sophie Quirk used her pace well at link.”
The Wagga under 18 girls were among six Wagga teams victorious in the finals at Southern Suns.
Wagga dominated the inaugural carnival, designed for regional teams who usually don’t compete at the Junior State Cup, but would like some exposure at a higher-than-local level.
Wagga’s junior touch football teams in attendance at Southern Suns have been invited to a barbecue hosted by the Wagga Touch Association at 5pm on Sunday night.
It will be a chance for players to reflect on the experience and receive awards prior to the Junior State Cup in Port Macquarie from February 20-22.
