The memorandum of understanding means some public patients will be able to use Calvary’s new hydrotherapy pool for $6 an hour.
It comes after a lengthy battle from local community groups to pressure the health service to keep the public pool open.
The health service would not confirm the public pool was closing but chief executive Jill Ludford said “a single, viable hydrotherapy service for Wagga is the most efficient use of public resources”, suggesting the public pool was likely to close.
“This new partnership will provide affordable, clinically-appropriate hydrotherapy services in a state-of-the-art facility,” Ms Ludford said.
The new agreement comes info force this month.
Clinical rehabilitation services will continue to be provided by MLHD staff.
Ms Ludford said the health service would subsidise the community groups so the fee is set at $6 per person for a one-hour session.
Calvary hospital has also welcomed the agreement.
