A week after winning the trophy against Griffith, Leeton couldn’t reproduce the same effort with the bat on Sunday.
Only two Leeton batsmen made it to double figures as they fell 50 runs short of West Wyalong’s modest total.
Bowling first, they were able to dismiss West Wyalong for 116 with Hugh Collins doing most of the damage.
Collins finished with four wickets while Steve Weckert took three.
West Wyalong captain Al Edis thought his team’s total was well below par but it was enough to take the win.
“It’s been a long time (since we’ve won), we’ve had a few goes in the last few years and been unsuccessful, so it is definitely a good feeling,” Edis said.
“It was a good batting wicket and we thought we probably 60 to 70 runs short and knew we had to bowl well to be even a chance.
“We were really surprised as when we got those few early wickets we just kept getting them.”
Former Leeton cricketer Matt Curry led the way, top scoring with 38, as he combined with Edis (25) for 67-run partnership.
Left arm swing bowler Jake Meincke ripped through the top of the Leeton innings.
He took the first four wickets to take the wind of out Leeton’s sails.
Edis was impressed with the attack after losing spearhead Brett Davies due to a hamstring injury.
