Ms Kempton was recognised for her promotion of rural medicine and said it was the passion of her life.
“I feel really honoured and so overwhelmed to receive this award,” she said.
“It is fantastic that Wagga would look to me, someone who is only relatively new, and do this. It says a lot about Wagga.”
The medical student said she would use the award to further her cause. Meanwhile, teacher and sportsman John Brasier was posthumously inducted to the city’s Walk of Honour.
Mr Brasier is seen as instrumental in the survival of the Wagga Harness Racing Club.
