The body of an Irish tourist who fell from a houseboat into the Murray River has been found.

It is believed the 25-year-old may have hit his head on the boat's motor when he plunged from the top deck early Saturday morning near the New South Wales-Victoria border.

About 10 private boats joined the police and SES in searching for the man, who was staying on the vessel with friends.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were called to the scene at 1.30am.

Police said there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

Divers found the man's body about 3.45pm.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
