For the last 12 weeks, participants in the challenge have attempted to change their whole lives by eating healthier and exercising more as they do their bit to shrink Wagga’s obesity problem.
Judy Davie, the founder of the Lighten Up Wagga program, said the past three months had been full of success stories, with some participants losing as much as 30 kilograms.
“I think the average weight loss is eight to nine kilograms over the last 12 weeks and among them there’s been some real standouts,” she said.
“There’s good stories in terms of families who are happy with what they’ve done. They’ve learned food eating skills they’re going to pass onto their children, which is wonderful.”
Ms Davie hopes the success of the challenge in Wagga, which she described as a “labour of love”, will attract sponsors and supporters to help facilitate similar events in the future.
“It’s been a wonderful project, I wanted to see it work and I believe I’ve proven it does,” she said.
Program participants celebrated the end of the challenge on Monday night and gathered to share their success stories from the past three months.
