Matt Turner was the toast of Gundagai on Saturday night after scoring a quality win in his hometown rodeo.

After two years of college in Texas honing his skills, Turner dazzled a bumper crowd as he took out the open bareback competition with 79 points.
Conquering Cheyenne Brave in the event, committeeman Darrell Edwards said it was one of the highlights.
Another was Tamworth cowboy Ben Maytom, who took out the saddle bronc event after coming out on top of multiple bucking horse of the year Cheyenne Top Girl.
"He’s just returned from Canada so it was one of his biggest wins,” Edwards said.
“She is by far the best bucking horse in Australia.”
Cobar’s Mitch Tidyman won the open bull ride.
Following a boost in numbers, 350 entries were received with the crowd nudging 2000.
Edwards was thrilled with how the event went off.
“It was very good, we had a good crowd and the standard was very good,” he said.
The next rodeo in the Riverina will be held at Wagga on December 12.
