The 14-year-old boy was sentenced in Wagga Children’s Court this week after pleading guilty to larceny.
His co-accused, a 17-year-old, has denied involvement.
The older boy is bail refused ahead of his case returning to court on January 5.
The theft took place at the Ashmont Mall about 5.50am on November 17.
According to police facts tendered to the court, the raid on the car was captured on video by a surveillance camera.
Taken from the car was a wallet containing $100 and $50 notes and personal cards.
Police found the 14-year-old hiding inside a wardrobe in a bedroom in an Ashmont house about 8.15am.
They had tracked the teenager there after watching video of the crime and speaking with a witness who said they saw two boys giving money to another male in Webb Park.
Police said they found two $100 notes next to the boy in the wardrobe.
