Armstrong, who turns 21 next week, collected an additional $700 for the win after Overtaking Lane was drawn as the jackpot horse at the meeting.
Armstrong hasn’t driven too often in recent months due to injury.
“It was great to win the bonus – the drinks are on me for my birthday,” Armstrong said.
“We lost our Pop last year so it’s nice to get a win.
“I haven’t driven too often lately due to an operation on my knee so it was good to be back with a win.”
Overtaking Lane is a real bargain with a mere $280 being paid at an Echuca horse sale.
Armstrong’s father Garry is the owner of Overtaking Lane and is the recipient of the bonus, but one gets the feeling the money may be going to his son’s 21st.
