Cox took two horses to Lockhart on Friday to give Amber Comb a couple of race rides at the picnics and walked away with victory to Matilda Bird in the feature sprint.
Matilda Bird ($2.20) resumed from a spell but had no trouble as she raced to a 2¼ length win in the Cargill-AWB Paul Alexander Memorial Trophy Handicap (930m).
“That was only her second track gallop,” Cox said.
“Amber rides work for me and that’s the only reason we came.
“It was good for her.”
Cox and Comb only just missed out on a double as Bringenbrong ran second in the Cup after running to the outside fence on the final turn.
Meanwhile, Wagga trainer Trevor Sutherland claimed a Lockhart double with Pure Esteem and Izzy Squizzy.
