Renditions of good old favourites of the 50’s and 60’s streamed out of a colourful, well-organised pop-up-shop in the main street to get the party started in the week leading to the event.
There is something uplifting about doing shopping to rock n roll tunes.
Puts you in an upbeat mood for the rest of the day.
According to organisers, the aim is to make this an annual event and build on this year’s momentum.
They had stiff competition in 2015 with so much happening in the shire over the October weekend and it was a credit to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen.
Deb ball
THE Deb Ball in Narrandera on Saturday night is being raved about.
The ANZAC theme in this special year was very well received and according to Master of Ceremonies, Bill Howitt, the tribute brought tears to his eyes.
Dame Professor Marie Bashir, Narrandera’s favourite and most famous daughter, received the debs and spoke with everyone in individually, including all attendants.
She made everyone feel special.
Federal Member for the Riverina Michael McCormack was also a special guest on the night.
Renaming of park
PROFESSOR Marie Bashir was on hand on Sunday for the official renaming of Narrandera Park to Marie Bashir Park.
Her husband, Sir Nicholas Shehadie AC, OBE, former Lord Mayor of Sydney and ex-international rugby player was there to share the moment.
Good Old Days
BARELLAN’S Good Old Days was, as in previous years, outstanding.
The town was bursting at the seams with locals and visitors.
Many travellers had covered substantial distances to immerse them in an event where everything old was new again.
With a population of around 300, Barellan people have a reputation for making things happen against the odds - and they do it again and again - the Good Old Days, the Masters’ Games, netball and on it goes.
