Daniher and co-coach Trevor Ion only agreed to a one-year stint in the Goannas’ top job and have opened up the role for a new candidate.
Daniher and Ion steered MCUE to the minor premiership only to fall in the Riverina League grand final to Collingullie-Glenfield Park by 71 points.
Daniher said his farming commitments in Ungarie made it too hard to commit to a second year in the job.
“There’s no way I can, I’m out here on the farm,” Daniher said.
“I enjoyed every part of it but the plan was always just to do it for one year.
“It was a good year, take away the second half of the grand final and that was the only blemish.”
Daniher believes the vacant MCUE coaching job is the most appealing role in the Riverina.
“As for football coaches and coaching jobs, you couldn’t ask for a better one,” he said.
“The under 17s won the grand final, it’s a young group in first grade, whoever takes it on is in for a great job.”
Daniher, 49, spends his time split between his farm at Ungarie and his family in Wagga.
Ion and assistant coaches Travis and Trent Cohalan took training early in the week and Daniher returned for the final session, selection and game day.
He said he thoroughly enjoyed the year and hopes to stay involved at the Goannas.
“I won’t be too far away, I’ll be helping out where I can,” he said.
“It was a great year in the RFL, very interesting being so close and it was really enjoyable that way.
“It was great to get back involved in footy and I got as much enjoyment out of it as anybody.”
Daniher, a premiership player at Essendon, and Ion performed their final official duties at the club’s presentation evening on Friday night.
