The region’s brightest teenage talent will run out in the AFL grand final curtain raiser between the Allies and the AFL under 17 Academy.
Riverina will be well represented with Jacob Hopper, Matt Kennedy, Jock Cornell, Harry Himmelberg, Matt Flynn and Charlie Bance all named in the Allies’ squad.
Henty young gun Harrison Macreadie will play with the AFL under 17 Academy team.
Wagga footballer Charlie Bance is pumped about the opportunity to play on the MCG on grand final day.
“I can’t wait,” Bance said.
“My groins are pretty good at the moment. I’m not going to play a full game and I’ll play up forward but it will be nice to get out there.”
Bance has battled a groin injury for most of the year and realises this is a good chance to show AFL recruiters what he can do.
“It’s probably my biggest opportunity this one, to do something,” he said.
“I don’t have to get 1000 kicks but I’ve got to show something.”
The boys will head to Melbourne on Thursday for training and they will attend the AFL grand final parade on Friday, then the big game on Saturday.
It will be their last hit-out before the draft screening camps later in October.
The game is played at 10am on Saturday morning and will be broadcast on afl.com.au.
