Just a day after announcing Shaun Campbell as their new coach, Tigers have landed the signatures of three of his former teammates from Ainslie.
Midfield jet Sean Ellis heads the signings and will be joined by key position players Rob Tuohey and Dale Walker.
Ellis enjoyed an outstanding season at North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL) level and was named in Ainslie’s best in 12 out of his 17 games.
Touhey is a former captain of Ainslie, while Walker is an athletic big man that can play at either end of the ground.
Campbell, the new Tigers coach, said all three will bring a number of different qualities to their new home.
“Sean would be the pick,” Campbell said.
“He’d be one of the best on-ballers in the NEAFL.
“He’s had a good couple of years and really hit stride this year and will be a good chance of winning Ainslie’s best and fairest.
“He’s a small on-baller who also has the ability to go forward and kick goals.
“He’s pretty unstoppable.”
Campbell said Tuohey and Walker will give Tigers options.
“Dale’s an all-rounder,” he said.
“He plays centre-half-back on the biggest forward and has great skills. He can play anywhere really.
“Rob’s a key defender an an ex-captain of Ainslie.
“He comes with a wealth of experience and knowledge.”
The signings come at the right time for Tigers, who are set to lose a number of key players for next season.
John Anstee, Angus Durnan, Xavier Brennan and Fergus Inglis have all indicated they will not be in Wagga next year.
Tigers president Scott Bance said the addition of the accomplished Canberra players was timely.
“Given our expected player departures next year and the potential of four of our younger players being involved in the NSW-ACT Rams program we are very pleased to have added players of their quality, not only to our club but to Riverina Football Netball League,” Bance said.
