The two teams will met at Leeton No.1 Oval on Saturday looking to earn the right to tackle Albury in the grand final.
The Phantoms are yet to concede a try against the Waratahs, but let in 11 against the Steamers last week.
Despite the Phantoms coming off a 66-point loss, Mitchell is expecting an improved team on their home ground.
“I’m not looking too far into last week,” he said.
“We really didn’t hit our straps and didn’t put the foot on the throat and Leeton at times in the first half were good.
“We are expecting a very different game.”
Leeton were undefeated for the first half of the season, while Waratahs struggled to even make it into the top tier and are looking to make the grand final from fifth position.
With that in mind Mitchell believes the Phantoms have more to lose.
“There is no pressure on us either, the pressuee is on Leeton,” he said.
“They are the guys that have only lost a couple of games all year, it’s their home ground and the whole town will be there to wacth them as they haven't played finals for a long time.
After being held tryless in their last two encounters, Mitchell believes his team only needs to take their chances and the points will flow.
“We obviously have to muscle up in defence at lot but last time we played them we probably bombed two or three opportunities at the start of the game,” he said.
“Momentum is a funny thing and when you’ve got it it’s a hard thing for the other team to stop and vice versa.
“It’s just a matter of getting on the front foot and physically matching them.”
Waratahs fell in the preliminary final last year and with a very similar team are despite not to repeat that fate.
One major difference is that this time around they are relatively injury free, with only Matt Shortis available.
“We did speak about it in the pre-season that it’s the last thing we want to happen again,” Mitchell said.
“During the year we have rested guys that we’ve needed to.”
The return of second rower Joe Mullany is the only change for the Wagga club after he missed the win over Tumut with concussion.
