Wagga’s Paula Housden, Sondra Hodges and Fiona Bruce are teaming up and aim to cause a little mischief on track during the Wagga 6 Hour Enduro this Sunday.
“We all hug trees when we go riding. If we fall over, we hug trees,” Housden explained.
It’s the first time the trio have competed in the event, which is the final event for the Evocities MTB Series.
While it’s the first time riding the enduro, it’s not their first time bike riding with two of the ladies turning 50 years old this year and one over 45.
“This time last year, we couldn’t even get up the hill at ‘Pommie’,” Housden said.
With a goal in mind, the three trained regularly this year to be ready for the big day.
“We’re hoping to get two laps each done,” Bruce said.
“We’re out there for a bit of fun, but not too much fun because we’re pretty competitive,” Hodges said.
The three ladies have put in some time to learn the track and know what to expect and have a few bruises to show for their practise.
“We’ve mastered Housden’s Hollow – named after Rod Housden, where he came off and knocked himself out,” Housden said.
“Everything’s got a name out there.”
Apart from the elite riders, the Hippy Chick Tree Huggers are among the most popular riders at the event.
“There’s a large group of riders who want to ride with us, ‘cause we’re entertaining,” Hodges said.
“There seems to be more and more GoPros being attached to helmets on our training rides,” Bruce said.
