In the lead-up to March’s state election, the government announced it would replace the XPT fleet, with member for Wagga Daryl Maguire at the time hailing the move as an end to “second-rate trains”.
The government allocated $7.5 million in this year’s budget to start the planning the new fleet. “It’s early days but we’ve begun the process,” Mr Maguire said.
