“I think they need to protect the bloke going for the ball a little bit better,” Dowdle said.
Young gun Lachlan Gaffney left the field briefly in the first quarter after a fair collision but finished the game on the bench after some heavy bumps.
“They were hitting him late and to his credit he got up every time,” Dowdle said.
Dowdle expects the Saints to meet an improved East Wagga-Kooringal next week.
“They’re a beautifully skilled side, they’re well-drilled and they’re physical so we’re definitely going to have to be on our game to match it with them.”
