Nanny state hysteria
IT IS my opinion Cr Greg Conkey needs to butt out on his crusade of banning smoking in Wagga’s main street – it is hyper-stupidity.

Has he thought this through? Does he think he can be a “cultural editor” and dictate how we should all live?
If everyone has to conform, no one evolves. Does he want to take away people’s free will?
Is Cr Conkey so far advanced he knows why every smoker wishes to smoke? Each person who has an addiction has unresolved emotions.
Maybe Cr Conkey needs to spend time finding alternative answers to such human riddles.
If council proceeds with taking smokers’ free will, have they even checked if it’s against the Australian Constitution? Smoking is not against the law.
Cr Conkey’s crusade reminds me of a fundamentalist Christian. Does Cr Conkey have control issues?
Will he personally take on the cost of signage, installation, policing and implementation of such a ban? And if those who smoke decide not pay the fines, will be cover the cost of court battles? Could ratepayers be in for unseen litigation costs?
Yes, the exhaust fumes from cars are just as potentially damaging to asthma sufferers. Fair enough, ban smoking in outdoor eating areas but not the full length of Baylis and Fitzmaurice streets.
Does Cr Conkey want to kill tourism and make Wagga the laughing stock of Australia? If this is instigated I will do my grocery shop in the suburbs.
Thumbs down to Cr Conkey.

Think outside the square
REGARDING the discussions for and against rail trails. I feel both sides are not thinking outside the square.
Instead of landholders saying it’s not going to happen on my land and the other party saying its great for the environment, both parties should band together and lobby the government to rebuild the train lines. The benefits of this are enormous.
It will open up accessibility for the small country towns where people have to travel to work or to go to larger centres for shopping and medical. Walkers would not be littering the tracks with cigarette butts and general food rubbish.
By having trains running again, it will create employment, create enjoyment for people who love trains, increase tourism andthe politicians would save on travel costs. We could even have steam trains running on weekends. So come on all of you, let’s get the trains rolling again.

Sentence double standard
THE sentence of Maggie Kirkpatrick is a joke. It looks to me that women who commit the same crime and cause the same mental damage are more equal than men.

Real reason for boos
DID you hear in the media the bit about why people were booing and jeering certain people at AFL games?
How their reporters went out into the crowds at AFL games to ask why they were booing. No … and neither did anyone else! Because they never went out to ask the question.
Why do the research when you can just jump on the bandwagon?
I would suggest that prior to the incident which sparked the so-called outrage, thousands of people at AFL games were very sick of Adam Goodes throwing out his hands and appealing for a free kick .
And when he did his provocative dance routine they were tipped over the edge. The AFL should stop their social engineering.
