Barbara Konstantakis watched as her mother was strapped into the helicopter and airlifted from Batemans Bay to Canberra after suffering a stroke in 2008.
“They’re the difference between a good story and a bad story,” Ms Konstantakis said.
The Wagga woman shared her story this week as part of Snowy Hydro, the region’s primary aero-medical and rescue helicopter service, launching initiatives to give the region a stronger voice.
Wagga Councillor Julian McLaren was appointed to the board of directors, while a new Regional Supporters Program was rolled out.
The helicopter executed 79 missions across the Riverina last year to account for 15 per cent of its total missions. Snowy Hydro CEO Chris Kimball and board director and former Wallaby Pat McCabe announced the changes in Wagga this week.
