The verdict is in on Seven's much-hyped Restaurant Revolution and the winners are ... a bunch of cats.

Seven will next week replace its ratings dud in the key Tuesday timeslot with the premiere of Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud, "a compilation of the most hilarious and outrageous cat-themed videos on the internet".

In a move that will presumably leave rivals Nine laughing – possibly out loud, deploying the feline funsters means Seven is effectively waving the white flag in its food fight with Nine's The Hotplate.

Both shows launched last week to less than stellar ratings, but by the end of its first week Restaurant Revolution's Thursday episode had tumbled down the rating's ladder to an anemic 83rd spot. That left the show six places below a repeat of Jonathan Creek on the ABC and only barely ahead of veteran daytime soap The Bold And The Beautiful.

This week Seven has shifted Restaurant Revolution, which features contestants battling to set up successful eateries in shipping containers, to Thursday with a double episode, thus avoiding any more head-to-head tussles with The Hotplate.

It will be replaced on Tuesday night by Dr Harry's Craziest House Calls, confirming Seven's apparent belief that critters rate better than cooks.

Promotional material for Cats Make You Laugh Out Loud explains that, "In addition to the uproarious clips, cat behaviour experts are on hand to analyse and explain the physiological characteristics of these most beloved pets."

The latest kitchen sink dramas come against the backdrop of Tuesday's dramatic court action in which Seven claimed Nine had pinched ingredients from My Kitchen Rules to cook up The Hotplate.

A decision from the Federal Court on whether Nine will be forced to turn off the burners on The Hotplate is expected later this week.

Should Seven win that case it will be desperately hoping viewers will instead give Revolution a spin instead.
