The clash between Wagga A grade netball’s first and third-placed teams is undoubtedly the feature game of the upcoming round.
Like, the Stars, the Aces had a resounding win on Monday night, too, powering away from the Panthers.
The advantage that New Kids has over the field is that the majority of the team have been playing together for some time, and those new to them have fitted in well with the slick teamwork displayed a highlight of their play.
Most impressive for the Stars in their last game was goal attack, Clare Vearing. Her height, mobility and accurate shooting led the way for the Stars big win.
Equally contributive to their win was the play of Michelle Forrell and Jenee West, who controlled the centre court area.
Word is that the Kids will be without long serving shooter Lisa Frow and this could cause a reshuffle in their line-up and perhaps an opportunity for the Stars to expose this change. Whether the Aces choose to promote a shooter from a lower grade or utilise the services of part-retired coach Naomi Hocker, remains to be seen.
Either way the onus will be placed on schoolgirl shooter Paige Guthrie to score the bulk of the goals. Abbeys, Fellows and Corbett, and newcomer Marie Campbell, have played top netball in the centre court and their clash with the more experienced Forrell and West could determine the outcome of the game.
Also on Saturday, Panthers will have a real challenge against Uranquinty.
It’s unlikely that the Panthers will lose their spot in the semi-finals, but they realise that to progress in the finals they will have to lift their game several levels to match it with the top three.
There’s no doubt that the Panthers will give of their best but after a 42-goal loss to the New Kids on Monday night, their confidence level must be at a low.
Amanda Plum and Leanne Harmer are honest defenders, Kate Garrett is playing herself into form after a knee injury, Bonnie Higgins is a livewire, whether shooting or in the centre court and Kirsty Lowe and Viv Murnane consistently give good service. However, they will find the excellent play of Uranquinty’s three-pronged shooting attack of Jess Allen, Lana Duffy and Stacey Curran, difficult to contain and the defence of Rachael Creasy, Brooke Tilyard and Georgina Grant hard to get past.
In the third game, a winless Turvey Park will look to change that status when they meet CSU Reddies.
Both teams were well beaten in Monday night’s round of matches and will be keen to bounce back. The Reddies have had only two wins in their maiden season in the top grade and it was Turvey Park that they beat on both occasions, and by four goals in both games.
Monday results: Uranquinty 69 d Turvey Park 34, New Kids Aces 60 d Panthers 18, Shooting Stars 72 d CSU Reddies 31.
