Mother Nature a saviour
I WISH to express my gratitude, on behalf of defence force personnel, to good, old Mother Nature for what happened last Saturday at the RAAF 75th Anniversary event.

The rain actually held off while they marched down the street and had their ceremony.
The bad weather did not allow for those smaller aeroplanes to fly around but at least the servicemen and women did not get absolutely soaking wet.
Well done to the not-so-wet weather.

The cost of representation
COUNCILLOR Negline, good luck with your move to Western Australia.
However, who pays the cost of your travel, meals etc when you attend council meetings in Wagga?
Ratepayers? If so you should resign.

Keeping pace with trots
I NOTE with interest in The Land on July 16 that changes are planned for Fairfax papers, particularly in the country.
These changes will not be complete until the harness racing full page in every Thursday’s The Daily Advertiser is reinstated.
This used to be a much looked forward to segment.

Seeing red over Eddie
EDDIE McGuire should be made to stand down from commentating after his childish effort on Saturday’s Collingwood game.
Go away Eddie and get a life.

Who’s the real racist
WHO really is the racist?
Adam Goodes is a manufactured "hero".
He is only as talented as hundreds of others playing alongside him each week yet he became Australian of the Year.
Why?
Simple really, he’s black. I’m not being racist by saying black, it’s a colour so get over it.
Goodes has taken politics into football and there is an obvious agenda set with talk of a possible referendum on our constitution soon.
If anyone is divisive or racist you need look no further; he did that ridiculous and irrelevant jiggy-jig across the field to deliberately keep himself in the news and he was appropriately booed.
He is a disgrace to the nation.
He and his ilk don’t want equality, they want compensation.
Worse than his racism is his wanting to silence the protest of his actions.
Unless I’m mistaken, we are still able to voice our opinions, but as we all know if you say anything about anybody you’re branded a racist.

Thanks for insights
WHAT a refreshing insight story from Keith Austin (DA, Weekender Traveller, July 11).
It was of special interest to me, the ethereal beauty of Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, England.
It was here my dad was given his first appointment as organist on his graduation from Kings College at Cambridge University.
Several Christmas carols he wrote the lyrics for, together with Sir David Welcox, are still being sung in England to this day.
This cathedral was Dad’s favourite haunt - together with Notre Dame France and St Stefan’s in Austria, where he gave numerous recitals, as well as Carnegie Hall.
Thank you for the memories and printing this most informative article.
