Freshly re-signed to coach Albury in 2016, Jeffery is adamant an “attitude change” is the secret behind the border team’s remarkable mid-season revival.
“I think it started the day we beat Brothers,” Jeffery said.
“There was definitely an attitude change.
“There was more enthusiasm on the field, and more enthusiasm off the field.”
Two days after Albury president Rick O’Connell announced at training that Jeffery was staying on as coach next year, the Thunder are heading into a critical clash with Junee at Greenfield Park on Sunday.
Currently second on the ladder, Junee stunned Albury early in the season at Laurie Daley Oval, breezing to a 30-0 lead before romping home 40-22.
With Albury chasing an historic fourth straight Group Nine title this year, Jeffery admits reversing the result against the Diesels is a prime objective.
“The focus is definitely on Junee,” Jeffery said.
“With the bye to come, we should be there (finals) if we beat Junee.”
A week after thrashing Tumbarumba 54-0 to edge into fifth place on the table, Albury is now in a position to shoot for a vital qualifying or elimination final at Greenfield Park in August.
The Thunder must finish either second (v third) or fourth (v fifth) to earn a home final, which would be a huge boost for their chances.
For Jeffery, the main priority on Sunday will be to contain Junee’s “speed and talent” to deliver a killer blow to the Diesels.
“They’re (Junee) a dangerous side,” he said.
“They can score a lot of points.”
Recalling the horror loss to Junee on May 2, Jeffery said the Thunder had been “asleep” in the first half as the Diesels blasted on five tries.
Three month later, however, Jeffery has no doubt Albury has been shaken awake .
“There’s so much more confidence in the team,” he said.
“We’ve started to score a lot more points.”
Under Jeffery’s astute coaching, Albury has undergone a massive transformation.
Beaten in successive games by Kangaroos (14-12), Southcity (48-4) and Young (36-24) in May, Albury has since strung together six wins on the trot, including notable successes against the Bulls and Roos.
Jeffery says a near full complement of players has been bonus in the impressive streak, in the process confirming centres Chris and Mitch Seaton will be back after missing the victory over Tumbarumba.
The Albury skipper also handed wingers Daniel Hill and Alex Jones a great compliment, declaring they providing tremendous try-scoring power out wide.
Although far from finished with 2015, Jeffery is already itching for next year’s campaign.
“I’ll be great to have another crack (at coaching),” he said.
