The company reported quarterly results this morning and while the numbers weren't that well received on Wall Street (shares are down 3.3 per cent at the time of writing), they did remind us that the service is used by a staggering number of people.
Nearly a billion people log into Facebook around the world each day. The majority of those (about 800 million) do so on a mobile device. From a business perspective, the most impressive thing is that Facebook is making money out of its massive audience and cementing its dominant position in the booming market for mobile advertising.
Facebook's quarterly revenue crossed $US4 billion ($5.5 billion) for the first time in its history, and the company made, on average, $US2.76 from each of its users around the world during the three-month period.
