A lot of startling rumours today. First that there has been a great naval battle in the North Sea with heavy losses on both sides. Then the French had taken Maidos and captured a lot of guns. Later a rumour that the British and Indians in Mesopotamia had driven the Turks right out of the country. For the latter which appears to be true we fired one round per man and gave three cheers. Mik and I deepened our dugout to about four feet.
