In a coup for the reigning premiers, Bolton has agreed to share the Kooringal Colts coaching duties with Andrew Dutton for the upcoming season.
Dutton was coach of last year’s premiership side and will be joined by the experienced Bolton in a new-look partnership to this season.
Kooringal Colts president Brenton Crawford is delighted with the appointments in a bid to keep the club moving forward.
“We’re really excited,” Crawford said.
“Dutto did it last year and the results speak for themselves.
“Dave has had an interest for a while and it secures him as a player so we’re really happy.”
Bolton took all before him in a stunning debut season in Wagga that was followed up by an exceptional final series.
He scored 147 in Colts’ amazing run chase to make it through to the grand final.
Bolton then backed it up with 5-39 to win man of the match honours in Colts’ grand final victory.
Crawford believes Bolton will make a great coach.
“He’s played a high level of cricket that he’s used to come back and teach the boys,” he said.
“At this level, you can’t buy that sort of experience.”
Crawford is confident that Dutton will also prove a better coach this season.
“He enjoyed it last year, that was his first year as coach and he’ll be much better for it this year.”
Bolton said he is happy to step up into his first club coaching role.
“Absolutely, I was happy to help Dutto out,” Bolton said.
“He did a fantastic job by himself last season so hopefully I can take up a bit of the slack and we can keep the club moving forward.”
Bolton believes there is no reason why Colts cannot go back to back.
“There is still room for improvement,” he said.
“We’ve got quite a young team so we hope to keep developing the young guys, keep the experienced guys around and we’ll be looking to go well again.”
Colts’ premiership captain Keenan Hanigan is expected to retain the captaincy.
