We learn that the Turks made a general attack of the Allies positions down South and were annihilated. About ten o’clock we observed a big explosion in the vicinity of Achi Baba but do not know from what cause. A big battleship also went up the Straits later. It has been very quiet here all day and nothing doing at Hellis. The Turks counter attacked them after the advance but after they had been repulsed the Tommies advanced again. It is reported that a submarine torpedoed the French transport Le Patrie down South, but we don’t know for certain.

The Turks at 3a.m. started a very heavy bombardment all along our front but especially on the Batts. position. They fired all sizes from a little Hotchkiss to the big 11 and a half inch. This is the first time she has fired at us from off land. They have fitted her up about three miles off. We only had one man killed.
