In the middle of the burrito craze that took Baylis Street by storm, franchisee Asif Ahmed said he expected to have given out more than 4500 burritos by the end of trade.
The new restaurant – curiously located directly opposite rival Mexican chain Zambrero – saw a steady stream of people through the doors throughout the day, with queues stretching north almost all the way to the corner of Morgan Street at times.
“The morning was a little quiet, but then we got smashed,” restaurant manager Eduardo Uruena said.
Head office flew staff in from Sydney and Melbourne to help lighten the load of having to cook up thousands of burritos in the space of just nine hours in the kitchen on Thursday.
Mr Ahmed said early indications showed the spicy chicken burrito seemed to be an early hit with customers.
“They were a little scared of its spiciness but they tried it and loved it,” he said.
