The Daily Advertiser reported in 2012 initial plans for the site included a supermarket, but nothing has been confirmed.
A spokesman from Woolworths said the supermarket chain has no plans for The Mill site at this stage.
It was the same story at Coles, who steered clear of the speculation.
"We have no current plans to establish a supermarket at The Mill,” a spokeswoman said. “Coles is committed to serving local customers at its Sturt Mall and Glenfield Park supermarkets."
As stage one moves towards its conclusion, focus will turn towards lining up shops to call the $40-million development home.
Eldridge First National director Josh Eldridge said residential sales have been strong, with most of the apartments snapped up.
"I met with the developers last week and they say everything is running on schedule,” Mr Eldridge said.
“The 29 apartments in stage one will be ready before Christmas.”
The ground level will have nine specialty retail outlets available.
Mr Eldridge said expressions of interest for both residential and commercial are more than welcome.
A display apartment is available for prospective buyers to inspect.
“The apartments start at $450,000 in the first stage and go up to $990,000 for the penthouse apartments,” Mr Eldridge said.
After initial delays, the site has moved in leaps and bounds.
The development will consist of six buildings, four made up of apartments.
As part of its first stage, the western half of the original heritage-listed Mill building will be occupied by the development in the form of two large commercial spaces.
Mr Eldridge has said in the past that he would like to see the spaces occupied by a tavern-style development and a restaurant.
Mr Eldridge said a number of retailers, including hairdressers, coffee shops and newsagencies, had expressed interest in leasing retail space in buildings one and two.
Commercial offices may also feature in the development.
A spokesman for project managers BCEG International (Australia) Pty Ltd, the developers of The Mill project, said an anchor tenant “has not been disclosed” and did not add further comment.
