The two day tournament will see father and son teams compete not only for a state title but also a fantastic major prize of a golfing package to Fiji worth around $5000.
The event will be held at the Cootamundra Golf Course on Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2 and is a NSW Golf Association sanctioned event.
In teams of two, the weekend will take the format of a 4Ball Stroke where the winner will take the title.
A 4Ball Stableford will be run in conjunction, which is where the major prize to Fiji will be up for grabs.
With more people eligible to play in the 36-hole stableford event, the Golf Club made the decision this is where the major prize should be won.
The prize package includes a trip for two to Fiji to compete in the Pacific Father and Son Championships over three days from October 19 to 22. Accommodation and meals are included. Additionally, a $1000 Hello World travel voucher will be part of the prize to help cover the cost of airfares.
In Fiji, golfers will play on some of the most picturesque courses in the world including Natadola Bay and Denarau Island.
The Father and Son Championships in Fiji come just two days after the Fiji International which attracts a top class of golfers including Vijay Singh last year meaning winners of the Cootamundra title could be rubbing shoulders with the best of the best the golfing world has to offer.
The entire prize package is thanks to Pacific Golf Management and Sheridan Resorts on Denarau Island.
Any members of any golf club anywhere in NSW is eligible to play in the tournament with teams to be made of a father/son, grandfather/grandson, father-in-law/son-in-law or stepfather/stepson.
Entry for the two days of golf is $50 per player with names to be put down at the Cootamundra Pro Shop on 6942 2313.
Cootamundra Golf Director Graeme Cheshire encouraged as many people as possible to enter.
“It’s a great way to support the Cootamundra Golf Club,” he said.
“What better way to spend a weekend than playing with your father or your son,” he added.
Graeme knows only too well what it’s like to win a state title having done exactly that with son Tayce a few years ago and said it’s a feeling that can’t be beaten.
“We want to create atmosphere on our course and get more people using the facility and we believe this inaugural event will do that for us,” Graeme said.
“It’s one we can build on and can hang our hat on in the future,” he continued.
Cootamundra secured the event after Graeme and the team at the Country Club contacted Pacific Golf Management to register their interest in being part of the Father and Son Championships.
They were granted the right to be part of the event bringing the top-notch concept to Cootamundra – the oldest golf course in NSW and still a quality facility.
State titles are generally reserved for metropolitan areas making the handing out of this at the local course a prestigious feat.
With the Cootamundra Golf Course looking in great nick after recent rain, this is a perfect opportunity for teams that fit the bill to get a hit of golf in and have a crack at prizes the likes of which haven’t been seen at the Coota course in a long while.
