THE Rock-Yerong Creek defeated their closest rivals Coleambally 13.6 (84) to 10.3 (63) at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Both teams were sitting on 16 points, and now TRYC has edged ahead, knocking Coleambally into fourth position on the Farrer League ladder.
TRYC came out guns a-blazing seizing two early goals, and were ahead by 19 before Coleambally made their first breakthrough on the scoreboard.
Coleambally’s defence scrambled, frenetically sending the ball forward straight into the hands of the opposition.
In contrast TRYC’s defence showed composure, as players ran to space, looked up before passing to a nearby team-mate, and once player in the centre had made themselves available they knocked it through.
The game looked scrappy; rather than booting the ball both teams were regularly stringing together multiple hand-passes and losing possession.
The Blues proved their worth in the second quarter.
Coleambally’s Wes Kiley began on the right foot with a goal 22 seconds after the buzzer.
They played strategically, taking long shots to avoid the clutches of TRYC defenders who guarded the attacking zone inside the 50 metre arch.
Strategic play paid off for Coleambally forward Dean Pound, who scored two goals and took some unbelievable marks throughout the match.
At half time TRYC coach David Pieper advised his team to leave no man unmarked.
TRYC took the lion’s share of possession in the third quarter.
“Our pressure made them turn it over,” Pieper said.
The standard lifted in the fourth quarter, with both teams getting a boot on the ball, and playing an evenly-matched game.
Pieper commended the whole team and praised Tom Yates, Bryan Ball and Mitch Ward for standout performances.
“Mitchy Ward took 12 marks, that’s unreal, and they’re contested marks because he’s second half-forward,” he said.
