Wagga City jumped around CSU and Waratahs with four rounds to play before the split.
Coach Mick Small is looking to cement that position.
After narrowly missing a top six spot last year, they don’t face a team above them on the ladder before the split, however Small isn’t getting too far ahead.
“It’s nice, but we have to stay there now,” Small said.
“That’s the big challenge for the boys to keep playing the better rugby and stay there.
“We have some tough games coming up.
“We have Temora then Tumut at Tumut which is never easy and always a big clash for us.
“We need to make sure we are doing the little things right.”
