A woman, 18, and a Cootamundra man, 21, have died after a car crashed into a tree near Bathurst on Tuesday night.
Four people were travelling in a Ford Festiva hatchback on the Great Western Highway when it veered off the road and hit the tree at Yetholme about 10.20pm, police said.
The teenage woman from Young died at the side of the road.
The man, from Cootamundra, was flown to a Sydney hospital in a critical condition but was pronounced dead on Wednesday morning, police said.
He was sitting in the back of the car at the time of the crash.
"At this stage, we don't have any more information about how it happened," a Bathurst police officer said.
The driver, 24, who was from Young, suffered "serious injuries" and was taken to Orange Hospital, NSW Police said.
A Lithgow woman, 31, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, suffered a number of fractures and was taken to Liverpool Hospital.
A section of the Great Western Highway, 17 kilometres east of Bathurst, was closed for several hours.
Chifley Local Area Command and Crash Investigation Unit officers were at the scene overnight and continue to investigate why the car left the road.
Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.
