LAST weekend saw the 2015 senior interzone championships played at Harbord Bowling Club.
The Zone 8 players had mixed fortunes in rounds one, two and three with two points and +11 shots missing out in a spot in the semi-finals where Newcastle 66 defeated Central Coast 48 and Sydney Southwest 62 went down to Hunter Manning 69.
The final saw a good win for Newcastle 70 shots to Hunter Manning 57.
Tumbarumba
AGAIN good weather on the weekend at Tumbarumba with the semi finals of the championship pairs played on Sunday and the semi final of the A grade singles on Saturday.
In the A grade singles Bill Butz jumped away to a good lead of 6-0 on four ends and never let up the pressure to defeat a gallant Charlie Garrison 31-18.
Charlie Garrison fronted up again on Sunday to team with Tyler Oldfield in the pairs, Bob Miller and Bill Butz started well to lead 8-2 on four ends before Oldfield and Garrison strung together some good ends to lead 19-16 with five ends to play.
Unfortunately that’s where the run ended as Miller and Butz showed their experience and applied all the pressure to pick up 20 shots on the next four ends for a convincing 36-19 victory.
In the other semi final John Salter and Ralph Fair jumped all over Paul Wood and Geoff Hulm to lead 17-6 on 10 ends before going on with the job despite all the best efforts of Wood and Hulm for a good 27-11 win.
Social bowls on Saturday saw a game of pairs with Ray Trevursa and Jack Moore pick up nine shots on the last four ends to defeat Reg Smetzer and Paul Latham 25-15.
On Monday Jim Hunter and Paul Latham faced off in the B grade singles semi final, Hunter led early 24-13 before Latham produced some good bowls to close the gap and go on to win 31-29.
Social bowls will be on again both Wednesday and Saturday at 1pm with names to be in by 12.30pm.
