Young’s Dmytro Sytin was playing dangerously on the wing, advancing the ball forward past opposition players, and crossing it through to team mates in the centre.
A Lake Albert player, aiming to intercept the ball, unintentionally kicked Sytin in the leg and those within a 50m range heard a crack.
Sytin crumbled to the ground and was clearly in excruciating pain as officials came to his aid.
The game was suspended for 15 minutes as the ambulance was called and Sytin was assisted off the field.
Young coach Mark Mellish lamented the injury, considering he had waited a month and a half to obtain clearance for Sytin, originally from Ukraine.
It was Sytin’s third game of the season.
