About 50 staff at Heinz were laid off just days before Christmas when the food giant decided to close its Bomen canned meat factory. A last-ditch bid to sell the business to neighbouring meat processor Teys failed and Heinz has reportedly decided to resurrect the site. An Australasian Meat Industry Employers Union (AMIEU) spokesman said he was uncertain how many people were now being employed at the plant.
