The Peter Dooner-trained dog went within 0.06 seconds of setting a new track record last start and lines up in the hottest of the five heats for the Butch Pertzel Sprint Series (400m).
However Royal Norris faces a new challenge from Max Destruction.
The Murrumbateman dog has won three of his four starts and will start from box two in the fourth of the heats.
However Dooner believes the winner of seven of his 12 starts Royal Norris has drawn perfectly in box eight.
“It’s probably the strongest heat of the five, but the box will suit him so hopefully with a bit of luck he’ll go close,” Dooner said.
Royal Norris clocked 22.80 seconds in his last win at Wagga two weeks ago and he’s got the home track advantage over his main rival.
The run will be his fourth since a short break and Dooner believes he’s back to his best.
“He’s back from a spell and has found a bit of form and will be at his peak of his racing career,” Dooner said.
He’s won six races on his home track and apart from an unplaced run on debut the dog was never been out of the placings at Wagga or any other track.
The other feature on the 10-race card is The Appliance Man Final (320m) with Tiggerlong Olay chasing its fourth straight win.
