In atrocious conditions, the Southern Inland team won its first two games to qualify for the finals.
Easing past Western Plains 38-0 in the first game, Southern Inland defeated Mid North Coast 14-7 to book a place in the final.
Leading 15-8 at half-time in the decider Southern Inland couldn’t keep up the momentum in the second half to fall just short.
Despite falling short in the region’s first involvement in the tournament in 12 years coach Richard Turnbull was pleased with how the team performed.
“I think the team did pretty well under terrible conditions,” Turnbull said.
“It was extremely muddy but the guys did quite well.”
Southern Inland were on the attack late in the second tier of the competition, but couldn’t find one last effort to get over the try line.
There next assignment will be in the Brumbies Provinical Tournament at Wagga.
